His first movie was terrific and one of the best ever to be made in Bollywood. I simply couldn’t deny a single scene's significance that he portrayed as a family bonding in that movie. And honestly his first movie projected such a common problem that people would jump from their seats,........ “This could happen to me also”.
Khosla ka Ghosla was an amazing script showing how a family comes together in crisis and family that stays together gets through every thing in life.
I was eagerly waiting for his second after seeing this movie in 2005. Just finished it and I am equally impressed. Dibakar Banerjee made a remarkable movie with “Oye Lucky, Lucky oye”. The way this movie starts is so typical of the city that people of that age and in that city could quickly snap, “Been there, done that, felt nostalgic”.
Khosla ka Ghosla was entirely based in Dev Nagar, Delhi. The area I have measured on foot. This one again is shot majorly in Delhi, a place where I was born and spent the next 23 years.
The adolescent love, fancied automobile, chicks in the car and round the city we roam. Ahh…nostalgic.
The other amazing part of the movie is indeed the star cast. Abhay Deol, I must say is the best of the Deol family so far and not even a single movie that he has done so far is unworthy of applause.
This guy is so simple in what he does, you just don’t feel like asking, why doesn’t he ever raise his voice? Does he says all of his dialogues at 30 decibels. Is he having a stiff neck or is he trying be extra cute with those dimples in the cheek.
and none of them you ask, when you complete the movie. You love the guy just the way he is and carried himself in the entire movie.
One more brilliance of Dibankar Banerjee is choosing the female lead for the movie. Khosla ka Ghonsla had Tara Sharma in a very deglamourized role, where is she hardly wore any make up and there were scenes in which she looked breathtakingly beautiful.
This one has Neetu Chandra and she is looking equally gorgeous. No makeup, no hanky panky and you have a dusky looking female who looks too attractive.
The movie is based on the real story of a thief too good to be caught, and it was brilliantly portrayed by Abhay Deol too.
Khosla ka Ghonsla had another brilliance and that was the link between a scene at 2 minutes 30 second to a scene at 40 minutes 4 seconds, and the moment you realize the linkage, you would stand up and clap by the sheer genius of Direction, that the controller knew what he is was making from 0 minutes and 1 seconds.
Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye has the same effect. You just get the feel that the director always knew what all he has shot so far, and sooner or later every scene in the movie, will make a link with some other. Example is a greeting card at the dying moments of the movie
Talking of brilliance of the creator, Music can’t be left any where behind. This guy used background music to be best in his first movie Khosla ka Ghonsla. The OST of the movie would play in the background everytime something outrageous would happen. The way this guys does it,... is play a complete song in pieces, aptly put on the scene and apt lyrics written.
Carried the same brilliance on this movie and played background music with perfect pauses and repeats. Sneha kalwalkar has done an amazing job with some Punjabi folk music running in most part of the movies.
There is this one song that she puts in not to mention very apt moment of the movie. It is a Punjabi Folk song sung by Late Surinder Kaur and the lyrics touch you so deep that you can’t help but listen to the song over and over again.
I couldn’t help but to google the lyrics and find the song in Youtube.
Here it is …

This is to a Great song and a brilliant movie.
