Having born in the era of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is indeed a blessing, having seen almost every shot he has ever played in his life and so many times that I can tell which over which ball, which fence :P
Surprisingly this post is to Salute another Hero which I lately realized have been remarkable and shown the grit that only a great sports person can show. As great as Armstrong.
Sourav Ganguly, was down and out and every one on this planet knowing even a bit of cricket could bet that his career extinguished. Bang! next year he is the highest run scorer and the most consistent batsman in the Indian Cricket Team.
Speaks volume about the character and the grit of the sports person. Why I also like sports, is because that's the only place where human want the game to be more popular than themselves. Art for that matter is another in this class. A musician will never rate himself higher than the sound of music, a painter won't do it with colors, a writer would NEVER rate himself higher than words.
Passions, where we human takes a back seat are the best things to sense with entire body on this planet. Flloyd is no better person than his guitar, Jordan's leap without a basketball is a waste.
I used to curse Sourav for being a lousy fielder and a pathetic runner between the wickets but used to enjoy much more when he would hit the ball outside the ground in his own flambouyant style. In a reality show, his childhood coach revealed that Sourav didn't come for practice for 10 days, only to be known later when his coach investigated, that reason he didn't attend was because he was not allowed to hit sixes during net practice. His coach wanted him to learn basics :) . There is still no one on this planet who can hit them better.
He was a great leader and took India to their second World Cup Final. He was the only player to have clobbered Mutthiah Murlidharan every time he bowled to him.
This picture is a sign of the man who loves to win and gives a F to those who dare come between him and his sport.
India made a record chasing 325 at Lords that day, I remember the crackers that bursted in my street were equivalent to Diwali.
Where in at one point I wanted this man out of the team, a tear ran out when I realized I won't be seeing him anymore in a cricketing gear.
This is to a Man, truly deservingly be called a LEADER and a FIGHTER. I hereby salute his talent and grit and respect all that he has done for the country, believe or not.
You did a GREAT job, and you will be remembered.
